History

Personality

Tamamo has all the attributes you’d associate with a fox – sneaky, selfish, and cunning. She’s in it to win it and doesn’t care to hide the fact, because chances are she’s already assumed she’s smarter than you, and what you do or don’t know is of no consequence to her. Thus at first brush, people are resources for her to exploit for her benefit and her amusement.

The capacity for this kind of casual cruelty is why Tamamo agrees when people call her evil; her self-serving nature will almost always take priority, especially as she is a Heroic Spirit. For a being such as her, it’s already a miracle that she was summoned to the world of the living – in order to extend her own life and make her wish come true, nothing is too nefarious or off the table. She very much wants to live.

… She wants to experience love, too. Which is where her personality gets a little more complex.

Deep down Tamamo is not only incredibly lonely but wary of others, especially humans. Her time as a goddess showed her the beauty in humanity, but her time as a human also showed her their capacity for hatred and fear. She’s stuck in the middle of two warring states: distrusting humans for twisting her into a youkai, but also wanting nothing more than to be a good wife to someone, even though she fears that her very existence will cause others to shun her.

And to hide these complexities, Tamamo’s workaround is to be… a little spazzy. She is loud, demanding, and energetic because these traits tend to disarm people. Playing the part of a cute, hyperactive shrine maiden means others are more willing to trust her, to be exploited by her if she decides it’s necessary, and more importantly, it’s easier for her to discern if they’ll be a good match, either as a Master or husband material.

That said, when it comes to the matter of her Master, Tamamo shows extreme loyalty with an almost fanatic need to prove herself worthy to the person who successfully summon her. She doesn't care if they are good or evil, only that they have strong, pure, and just convictions. That alone will ensure that she will remain by their side until the bitter end... though that same devotion means she has quite the jealous streak in her. Sharing is not one of Tamamo's strong points, and she will be the first to admit this.

Honestly though, for as much as she expects to be placed at odds against humanity, she doesn't hate them at all, and in fact understands why they turned against her. If she had a choice between getting along with others or being the enemy, she'd pick the former just to catch a break. She just knows y'all humans are super messy when you're angry.

First Impressions

▶ VISUAL: Tamamo is a seemingly young woman of Japanese origin, often dressed in a blue kimono. Her pink hair is pulled into two pigtails tied together with blue ribbons, and she regularly wears geta on her feet, giving her a deceptively taller appearance.

Most striking, however, are her fox ears, as well as a number of fox tails that protrude from her tailbone (the amount will vary depending on the psl, but usually one or three). She is also usually accompanied by an ornate mirror that floats around her person.

▶ DEMEANOR: Extremely spastic. Tamamo is a wave of unrelenting energy no matter if she's angry, cheerful, or just trolling someone. That said, she has moments of extreme cunning and can easily switch from energetic to cutthroat, especially when she feels she or someone she cares for is being threatened.

▶ SOUND: Voiced by Chiwa Saito, Tamamo sounds... unique to say the least, and is notoriously difficult to translate because of how she rockets between archaic, refined and energetic speech patterns. She talks like a palace courtesan that had too much caffeine.

▶ SCENT: Light perfumes bc she's a lady!! But no really not much of anything besides whatever mana smells of.

▶ MENTAL INFO: More conniving than she lets on. Her thought process is very methodical and observant, picking up details others normally wouldn't consider.

... Or she's just super horny and is wanting to bang her Master.

Abilities

▶ As Tamamo has many different abilities spread out across different canons, I'm gathering them here for my own reference. In particular, I've attempted to translate the game skills into more real-world parameters since... well I roleplay a magical fox girl, I don't know what anyone expected from me.

   SERVANT PARAMETERS:

(*note: parameters can be shifted if given a more powerful Master but I'll be using this as a base)

▶ Noble Phantasm: Eightfold Blessings of Amaterasu: Using a mirror of divine origin, Tamamo allows herself to cheat the system by giving herself unlimited magical energy for a short period of time, in order to fire off curses/magecraft/heal people at will. In FGO, she uses her newly acquired magical supply to heal the party and to refund mana, so they can quickly use their own skills again.

Normally the mirror used to activate the NP is far more powerful, even able to bring people back from the dead. However she can only access a fraction of its power as a Servant/in her one-to-three tailed form.

   FGO SKILLS:   

▶ Fox Wedding: declaring a one-sided wedding so that she can create items of congratulations that will heal her allies along with increasing their strength tenfold
▶ Witchcraft: Tamamo is a practitioner of Dakini witchcraft, and can read fortunes that will reveal a person’s time of death as well as ways to gain influence and power. In more practical terms, she will curse a target in battle -- for Servants specifically, the curse will delay their ability to fire off their NPs. For her allies, she will increase the damage potency of their NPs.
▶ Shapeshift: she can shapeshift her appearance, though she hates doing so and will normally just shapeshift into a body that can tank more damage
▶ Territory Creation: She can create a Workshop meant to help her create amulets and other such magical items, but hilariously, her personality isn’t suited for it, so she struggles doing this even though she technically can. I'm putting this here so I can later have her suck at it.
▶ Divinity: Given that she is originated from a goddess, it makes Tamamo very difficult to influence or bully (in FGO it means debuffing her is a pain in the ass)

   EXTELLA SKILLS:   

▶ Curse: Fiery Heaven: An attack that launches fire at the opponent
▶ Curse: Frigid Heaven: An attack that drops ice shards on the opponent
▶ Curse: Chaos Heaven:An attack that launches a fuck-off tornado at the opponent
▶ Charm: Spirit Theft: Absorbs energy for a target
▶ Mantra: Aphotic Cave: Will decrease damage from the next oncoming attack
▶ Mantra: Merciful Sky: Will increase the potency of the next magical attack
▶ Land of Eternal Bane: A skill that calls upon Tamamo's lore, specifically the Red Spider Lily Killing Stone that her spirit used to inhabit. It will deal a great amount of damage to the enemy as well as poisons them, but can only be used when Tamamo is critically injured
▶ Charm: Gyokutenhou: She kicks people in the crotch multiple times and will critically injure male enemies
▶ Breath of the Soul: Restores some of her lost mana during periods of rest.

Extra

▶ The version of Tamamo I play is mostly based off of FGO for flexibility's sake, so she isn't immediately tied to a master like in the Extra games. I can play her from that continuity but you'll need to ask for that version!

▶ AU Preferences: arranged marriage, soulmates, historical, fairy tales/fae/magic, holy grail wars, beast!Tamamo, honestly anything is free game bc I love AUs

▶ Content Preferences: detailed psls; slow-burn romances; master/servant relationships; emphasis on romances

▶ Warnings: Tamamo does not have anything particularly triggering in her backstory, however I do enjoy playing up some of the darker and more selfish aspects of her character. So even in more lighthearted psls, she's not going to be 100% mindlessly spazzy and will act on a lot of base desires to get what she wants.
